Answer: Fire bombing did not have the fear factor or the amount of destruction that the atomic bomb did. It was also more costly to drop hundreds of fire bombs, over one atomic bomb.

Answer: We needed to drop the bomb because:
It would bring a swift end to the war
It would result in less Allied casualties as apposed to an invasion of mainland Japan
Would make for a less expensive and costly war.
